It is not only death and taxes that are sure things. Another is that wherever you find an animal shelter you will always find an overwhelming need for funding, donations, volunteers and local support.

All except the most fortunate shelters are grateful for anything at all. It does not have to be money. It could be old blankets , bottles of bleach, pet food… or time. Volunteer time is always appreciated.

But here is another idea. One that might appeal to businesses who are interested in giving back to their local communities.  Donate information products.

Look at the benefits:

  • By donating these products the shelter does not have to find the money to have them designed or printed.
  • You are in control of the overall product and can include your own pr message.
  • Under certain circumstances donations to charity are tax deductible.
  • One reason that shelters are bursting at the seams is lack of information about the need to spay and neuter and misinformation about not doing so (for example that the pet will become fat, that its better to have one litter first, etc.) so helping shelters get the message out is one of the most important things you can do.

Another possibility is purchasing a number of products and donating them to the shelters to sell – cups, calendars, t-shirts, bumper stickers, etc.

Take a look at some of the rescue and adoption related products currently available on Zazzle. All of these products can be customized and adapted to suit your local shelters needs. I particularly like the postage stamp idea especially because that artist donates all proceeds to the Golden Retriever Club of Greater Los Angeles. How cool is that?

Hi Julie, thank you for using my bumper sticker to help animals and making a section about animal adoption. California has recently banned the sales of dogs and cats in pet stores and hopefully more state / countries will follow on. Puppy Mills are cruel places that should be shut down and spreading the word of adoption is a great way to do so.

    Best wishes

    Hi Julie,

Thanks for using my blue-eyed beauty business card. Her name is Sky. We adopted her last June. Our other dog (shetland sheepdog) was 16 years old became ill and we had to put her down. Shortly after, we decided to adopt another dog. I found SKY thru a shelter a few hours away from us. We were asking about another dog but he was adopted already. I saw SKY with her blue eyes (unique) and fell in love with her. When my wife brought her home, she did not look like what I’ve seen on-line. Looked like she didn’t eat for awhile. Very thin and no color in her fur. She was around 9 months old. She is Golden Retriever and Siberian Husky, That’s where her blue eyes come from. Also she howls when she wants something. It’s a Husky howl. It’s so cute.

We paid like $100.00 for her and everything. She is doing fine and looks like shes does in the business card above. She is a medium size dog, due to the mixed breed.

If you need a dog ot cat, go to your local shelter and adopt one. They need our help. Give a dog or cat a home. They need love and care.

    Thanks
    David from Wilkes-Barre,PA.

My boxer is also called Skye (though spelling is like the Scottish island). She was a pet shop puppy (I know, I know). I got her ten years ago before I was aware of the whole puppy mill scene. Typical of poorly bred boxers she has hip dysplasia and has already had two skin tumours cut out. More will come.

I couldn’t agree more with the ban on pet store puppies and although I wish I had known at the time I got Skye I wouldn’t wish her away for anyhting. She is my best friend. (Well her and Tito, Mia and Lili – the other models you will see on my Zazzle gallery. :) )
